A perennial favorite, this show ran for 43 years in a 150 seat theatre in Greenwich Village, New York city. Per the original, we have kept the clothes as simple and true to the characters as possible.
Plot Synopsis
Neighboring fathers, though good friends, feel they must appear as enemies to make sure that their children fall in love. They hire El Gallo, aided by the Old Actor and the Indian to perform a mock rape by moonlight so that the boy might prove his valor. Daylight reveals the parental deception, the lovers quarrel, and the young man goes off to see the world. After a number of degrading experiences he returns home to her waiting arms.
