Plot Synopsis

The story deals with the complicated romantic world of a middle-aged lawyer, Fredrick Egerman, his virginal child-bride, Anne; his son Henrik who is in love with Anne; his former mistress, the actress Desiree Armfeldt; Desiree's current lover, Count Carl-Magnus Malcolm; and the count's suicidal wife Charlotte. The proper partners are paired off at a weekend at the country house of Desiree's mother, a former concubine of assorted members of the nobility. (MTI)
